Our pledges to Equity, Diversity & Inclusion

At MEC we are committed to making a conscious and positive shift in music education. We are keen to guide our members in music education, building confidence, self-esteem and fostering a forward-thinking mindset to promote a sense of belonging for all people with protected characteristics.

We are supporting the sector to remove barriers that people face in music education and we promote the use of music to inspire, inform, educate and challenge whilst instilling a life-long connection to music in our communities.

We welcome everyone, empowering and championing all voices.

Our pledges

We challenge discrimination by being a positive role model to educate and demonstrate inclusive behaviours in a safe environment.
We recognise, understand and respect the experiences and abilities of all people enabling an inclusive and supportive environment for all.
We connect with all communities to support vulnerable and underrepresented groups.
We foster a sense of belonging amongst members that empowers people of all backgrounds by encouraging them to share their voice and teach others.

Using robust and creative methods to establish and maintain an inclusive working ethos for all where everyone feels valued and heard.

Communicating with all of our members and all music education organisations with regard to our EDI journey.
Implementing a robust monitoring, evaluation and review process which supports us to deliver on our EDI commitments.
