If you know the music education sector inside-out and want to help shape its future direction, then this Co-Chair role is for you.
The Music Education Council was established in 1975 and, for the last 50 years, has been influencing policy and practice in music education. Our mission is to connect people, share knowledge, and help shape a music education landscape that enables everyone to connect, grow and thrive.
In what is now the most rapidly changing environment - especially with the rise of new technologies and universal access not only to listening to music but creating it - MEC believes that the sector is on the brink of dramatic change. Policies, teaching approaches and legislation all need to evolve - not just to keep up but to lead the way in harnessing the huge potential of music to benefit people of all ages, especially young people.
At the same time, there is important work to do to tackle risks: protecting artists’ rights, addressing bias, closing gaps in access and opportunity, and celebrating the uniquely human power of making music together.
Becoming Co-Chair at MEC will give you the chance to be a genuine change-maker. You’ll help shape the sector’s future, advance equity, diversity and inclusion, and influence policy at local and national levels. You’ll also be working alongside fantastic colleagues who share your passion for positive change.
You’ll have the opportunity to connect with key stakeholders, build new partnerships and networks, and help drive fresh thinking that keeps music education relevant, inclusive and inspiring for generations to come.
